Name: Blake Belladonna
Age: 17
AU/PG/CANON/OC: Canon, RWBY

Summary:
  • Born a Faunus (humanoid with animal traits, second class citizen on the world of Remnant) and grew up in the Faunus rights movement the White Fang

  • Was there when the peaceful movement turned into a more violent one, continued working with it despite misgivings because it seemed to be doing some good

  • At some point was partnered with a senior member named Adam

  • Went on many missions with him, seeing him as her mentor, even as the White Fang continued spinning into darkness

  • Was on a magitek theft mission when she realized Adam had become a monster, more about force and violence as the rest of the White Fang than doing any good

  • Abandoned him and the White Fang, decided to become a Huntress (fighter against the soulless beasts the creatures of Grimm, and who are protectors of the people), to do some real change

  • Met and befriended other students at Huntsman/Huntress academy Beacon, named Ruby, Weiss, and Yang, became the B in their Team RWBY, gained the first real friends in forever- maybe even total

  • Discovered the White Fang were starting to act again, and with a human this time

  • Investigated them, discovered hints of something bigger than them all...

  • As a Faunus, Blake had always been looked down upon as lesser by the humans of the world. From a young age she was in the White Fang, sitting in every protest and going to every event, trying to help make lives better for her fellow Faunus. It was a hard, uphill fight though, one that there's been at least one war fought over in the past, but the White Fang kept things peaceful. ...For a time. Before the start of RWBY the old leader stepped down, replaced by someone with a darker intent, and the group turned violent. This seemed to do the trick though, because suddenly humans treated them better- out of fear. Blake had her worries about this but stuck with the group, helping them strike back against those who sought to oppress the Faunus race.

This lasted until she was sent on a mission with her mentor Adam, to go steal Dust- wieldable energy -from a train owned by a company that used Faunus labor. When she realized he cared nothing about the crew of the train and only about completing their mission, she realized (or perhaps confirmed earlier thoughts) that he had become a monster, just as cruel as the rest of the group. It was with a heavy heart that she abandoned both him, and the White Fang, at the end of the mission.

With the decision to do some real good in the world, she found a place in Beacon Academy, a school to train Huntsmen and Huntresses to protect the world from the creatures of Grimm, the real monsters. Her lifetime had rendered her quiet and secretive, her Faunus trait (cat ears) hidden under a simple bow. Stoic though she was, she met (and eventually befriended) Ruby and Yang, sisters attending the school. Eventually Weiss, princess heiress to the Schnee company (the aforementioned one using Faunus labor) was added, and the four of them fell together to form Team RWBY. Blake herself was partnered with boisterous bruiser Yang, which so far has seemed to go a long way toward opening her up.

Her relationship with her teammates grew fast and Blake became very dedicated to her team, which all came to a head when an argument with Weiss dragged her Faunus heritage out in the open. Fearing they would reject her and she would lose the first real friends in, well, ever, Blake... She ran. She tore herself from them before they could do it to her, and she took refuge in the company of another Faunus in the area named Sun. It was to him she first explained her ex-affiliation with the White Fang, and it was with him they investigated into the rash of Dust robberies that had taken place over the past few months.

And it was with him she discovered the White Fang were behind it, and were working with a human. Knowing this wasn't right she confronted them, starting a huge fight (which eventually dragged in Ruby, nearby out looking for Blake). The fight was hard but the enemies were chased off, and Blake reunited with her team. Though she feared they (especially Weiss) would cast her out like every other human before, they were all (even Weiss) just glad to see her and know she was safe.

From here, things returned more or less to usual. She continued to attend school and do activities with her team, her guarded attitude continuing to chip away. This even went up and over one epic food fight with another team friends with theirs, something she might've never even considered back in her White Fang days.

It wasn't all to last however, once they rediscovered the track of the devious movement and their human accomplice, which was enough to throw her into a fury of obsession to learn more. It was almost enough to destroy her; she lost sleep over endless fretting and research, constant going in circles, and worry over what they were all planning. Thankfully her partner Yang stepped in and talked her down, having a real heart-to-heart that helped Blake see just what going about this the wrong way was doing to her. After spending some time getting in much needed relaxation, she renewed her efforts with better focus and, more importantly, the help of her team.

Together they took on a school mission to scope out an area of Remnant, which was not quite as cut and dry as it sounded. Their accompanying Huntsman mentor, a teacher from the school, quizzed the girls (minus Ruby) on why they chose their path. Blake had answered to do some real good in the world, but when asked a simple question- "How?" -she found herself speechless, and later confessed to the other two that it made her upset. She'd never thought about how, she only knew the White Fang wasn't it.

The next day they uncovered the White Fang as an underground crime network- literally. They were working in old train tunnels and a desolate below-level abandoned city. Before they could discover much else the villains started their plan, open the tunnels with exploding train cars and lead innumerable Grimm into the main city. Trying to stop them saw Blake confront the human accomplice of the White Fang, and though he tried to play mind games with her she pretty much... well.

Though RWBY was ultimately unable to stop the train from crashing into the city and releasing Grimm, they were on the front lines of the fight and managed to save the city, with the help of other teams and teachers from Beacon. Now, with the leader of the event in custody, the girls go off to hopefully return to normal school life. And though Blake has many misgivings about how she's going to accomplish what she wants, she has little doubt about the fire-forged friends she's going to do it with.

Gem Considerations: Hematite. Blake is an introspective girl, given to reading books over doing pretty much any sort of social interaction. As a student at a prestigious academy she's also dedicated herself to learning to be better, both in school and in fighting, to be part of the elite class of warriors known as Huntsmen and Huntresses. She wants, and needs, to go as far as she can so she can do as much good as she can. The gem would help focus this, and over time will come clarity on both her mission in life and who she really is, and what defines her more: her actions, her ethics, or her heart.

    Power considerations:
  • Teleportation

  • Precognition

  • Aura reading

  • She would be conflicted over learning of the loss of her abilities from home. On the one hand, it's a big part of her that's locked away, and her fighting style relies heavily on her power- the ability to warp short distances on the battlefield and strike from a new direction. On the other hand, her fighting style relies heavily on her power. When she spoke with her team on how upset she'd become from the questioning about her goals, she spoke of her real problem with herself: her running. When she found out her mentor had gone bad, she ran. When the other girls discovered she had been White Fang, she ran. Even her power is running. This is something that causes her conflict deep at heart and so... While she may have problems initially adapting to its loss, it may not be entirely regretted.
